Rampant Swifts Run Riot at the Riverside

Jeanfield Swifts produced an emphatic first-half display of attacking football to dismantle Letham 4–0 at the Riverside, delivering a commanding performance built on ruthless pressing, defensive solidity, and a contender for goal of the season.

Just a fortnight after a chaotic nine-goal League Cup thriller—where Jeanfield staged a remarkable fightback from 4–1 down—the Swifts looked eager to avoid any similar drama. From the opening whistle, the hosts overwhelmed Letham with relentless energy and high-tempo pressing, never allowing the visitors a moment to settle.

The intent was evident within sixty seconds. A teasing corner from Rian Shillan found Jack Jardine, whose header cannoned off the crossbar. Letham failed to heed the warning, and just two minutes later, Shillan whipped in another wicked delivery to the back post. This time, Kros Brown met it with a clever, cushioned volley to break the deadlock in the third minute.
Jeanfield doubled their advantage on 11 minutes. Capitalising on a suffocating high press that threw the Letham backline into panic, Kros Brown won a committed 50/50 challenge and drove forward before delivering a low cross. Letham’s half-clearance fell invitingly to Jack Jardine, who made no mistake, drilling the loose ball into the net.
The woodwork came to Letham’s rescue in the 16th minute when Kyle Mitchell jinked past his marker inside the box, only to watch his crisp strike hit the base of the upright flush. Wave after wave of Jeanfield attacks followed, with Letham’s clearances immediately recycled by an alert midfield and the visiting goalkeeper called into action to make several sharp stops.

The breakthrough for number three arrived in the 35th minute with a moment of pure brilliance. Mark McNiven rolled the ball back to Robbie Green 35 yards from goal. Green set himself with a delicate first touch before unleashing a venomous strike into the top bin, leaving the goalkeeper helpless and sending the home support into raptures.

Two minutes later, the Swifts struck again. Aidan Smith drove into the penalty area and, while going down under pressure, managed an inventive flick toward Jack Jardine, who emphatically rifled the ball into the bottom corner to seal his brace and make it 4–0 before the interval.

The second period followed the same script, though the scoring stalled despite a barrage of clear-cut opportunities. Kyle MacDonald struck the crossbar just a minute after the restart, Nathan McNicoll saw a downward header clawed away brilliantly from another Shillan corner, Ali Abboud was denied from point-blank range by another sharp stop, while Mitch Hunter tried his luck with a stinging long-range drive that was also well saved.

While the scoreline remained 4–0, the clean sheet was as much a triumph as the four-goal tally after shipping four to the same opposition two weeks prior.
