Jeanfield welcomed Letham Community Club to the Riverside for their second fixture of the League Cup group stage, It certainly wasn't a footballing classic, largely due to a very poor first-half showing from the Swifts, but it ultimately turned into an unforgettable display of sheer determination.

The Swifts started on the front foot, launching several promising attacks without finding an early breakthrough. However, their persistence paid off in the 28th minute. Captain Kyle Mitchell orchestrated a beautiful move, playing the ball centrally to Jack Jardine just outside the box before making a darting run beyond the defensive line. Jardine spotted the run perfectly, flicking a one-two back into Mitchell’s path. Without hesitating, Mitchell struck a fantastic first-time volley that looped over the keeper to open the scoring.

Unfortunately, the lead was short-lived. Just two minutes later, a Letham free-kick into the box forced a punch from the Jeanfield keeper. The clearance fell kindly to a Letham player inside the penalty area, who finished quickly to level the match at 1-1.

The game settled into a tense rhythm with neither keeper heavily threatened until the 41st minute, when Jeanfield's defensive frailties were exposed. A long throw from Letham was poorly dealt with, allowing an uncontested cross into the box and a simple finish to give the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

Following a remarkably poor defensive showing in the final fifteen minutes of the half, the Swifts were given a stern talking-to.

Despite the halftime reset, things went from bad to worse immediately after the restart. In the 48th minute, Jeanfield surrendered possession carelessly in the right-back area. Letham capitalised instantly, attacking down the left flank and delivering a simple cross for a tap-in.

Stunned to find themselves 3-1 down, Jeanfield knew they had a mountain to climb and began throwing everything forward. Their aggression forced a major turning point in the 60th minute. Kros Brown broke through on goal from the halfway line, and as the ball bounced up, a recovering Letham defender brought him down cynically from behind, earning a straight red card.

The Swifts hoped the man advantage would turn their fortunes, but unbelievably, the ten men of Letham struck again in the 65th minute. A long kick from the Letham keeper was misjudged by the Jeanfield defense, falling to the winger. A low cross into the box found the striker, who flicked it home to make it 4-1.

At 4-1 down with 25 minutes left, it looked like a lost cause. However, to their immense credit, the Swifts simply refused to give up. What followed was a frantic seven-minute blitz that rescued the game.

On the 73rd minute, Jack Jardine drove a low cross to the back post, finding Ben Calderwood for a much-needed tap-in to offer a glimmer of hope.

On the 74th minute, straight from the restart, Kyle Mitchell slipped a pass through to Ronan Gillies, who scored from inside the box to firmly shift the momentum.

On the 78th minute, Mitch Hunter whipped in a cross, and Jardine capped off his brilliant playmaking by winning the header at the back post to equalise.

Finally, on the 80th minute, Kyle MacDonald delivered a low cross, and Jardine was there again inside the box to fire home, sending the sidelines into absolute joy.

Having achieved the impossible, Jeanfield’s game management in the final ten minutes was flawless. They successfully saw out the remainder of the match to secure an unbelievable 5-4 victory.

Man of the Match was Kyle Mitchell who on a day when the team struggled heavily in the first half, the captain dragged them through the mud. Even at 4-1 down, he refused to let heads drop, demanding the players continue pushing until the final whistle. He led by example, chipping in with a brilliant opening volley and an assist to spark the turnaround.
