Jeanfield Swifts travelled to Auchterarder for their third League Cup group fixture knowing that three points would guarantee qualification into the League Cup knockout stage with a match to spare.

The Swifts set the tempo from the opening whistle, controlling the contest down the right flank and generating constant pressure through a series of wicked corners. Jeanfield were also left aggrieved after two strong penalty appeals were waved away by the referee.

The breakthrough arrived on the half-hour mark. Mitch Hunter threaded a sharp pass into the path of Ben Calderwood on the right wing, who drove into the box and unleashed a superb left-footed strike into the top corner.

Jeanfield pushed to double their advantage before the interval, but the second goal proved elusive.

The second half followed a similar script, with the Swifts dominating possession and creating openings. A mixture of wasteful finishing and sharp work from the home goalkeeper kept the scoreline at 1–0.

Jeanfield struggled to find a fluid rhythm, and Auchterarder gave them a scare in the 59th minute, breaking away on a counter-attack only to fire wide.

Despite the disjointed flow, Jeanfield nearly sealed the points in the 84th minute. Ronan Gillies let fly with a strike that seemed destined for the net, only for the Auchterarder keeper to pull off a fingertip save and deflect the ball onto the post.

The closing stages descended into a stop-start affair courtesy of an increasingly card-happy referee. Clearly not taking kindly to routine questions regarding his decisions—or being told he was spoiling a good game.

Jeanfield held firm through the late disruption to secure the 1–0 win and book their spot in the knockout rounds.
