Young Swifts rue chances in league defeat

Despite the overnight snow and few early sleet showers we were able to get our home game on against Scone Thistle this morning. The away side took the early running and had a goal chalked off early. They weren't to be denied though and scored after some perseverance from their attacker who followed the ball in after initially being denied by Angus in goal. By midway we were still struggling to make inroads and found ourselves further behind with 2 quick goals. Callum gave us a hope though with a cracking strike from distance to make it 3-1. Scone though had been the better team in the first half and made it 4-1 just before the break.

We were looking for improvement in the 2nd and we got it as the boys finally found their rhythm and started to create a few chances. A Callum free kick just flashing wide being the best effort. Just as we thought we had an opening though, Scone had a penalty after their player was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. Despite a great effort from Cammy the penalty was stroked home. The boys continued to look for chances and were rewarded soon after when Kewin broke through the Scone defence and slotted the ball home for his 2nd goal in 3 games. With 18mins to play Scone went further ahead when we failed to clear our lines and were punished with a shot in the near corner. The boys were still though, despite the score, looking to create and in the last 15 missed a number of chances to make the game closer. This included a great save from the Scone GK onto the post from Aidan and Matthew's rebound also being touched onto the post.

Not one of our best performances to be fair and plenty to work on but second half in particular the number of chances we created was good and just need to work on converting them. Onwards and upwards. Man of the match was team captain for the day Casper who was his usual consistent self in the centre of midfield with his all action display. Well done Casper...well deserved.
