Swifts progressed in the Scottish Cup with a convincing victory over a determined Aberdeen Development. On a bumpy pitch in windy conditions Swifts had most of the pressure but were not creating their usual chances. However they broke the deadlock in style with Grossi hammering home an unstoppable 25-yard volley after a Matthan shot had been blocked. Swifts continued to press and got a deserved second when Shaw drove home another unstoppable effort from the edge of the box. Not as good as the first but a good effort nonetheless! With the defence on top and two excellent goals, Swifts were looking positively at the second half.

Aberdeen however had other ideas and came storming back into the game. Their young side were dominating the midfield and they got a deserved goal when a pass into the channel was met and finished in style. The Dons pushed for the equaliser but the Swifts defence held firm.

However, the Swifts midfield regrouped and got a grip of the game in the last 25mins and looking more like themselves started to create more chances. Matthan was thwarted by a fine double save following an excellent run and shot, and the Dons keeper continued her excellent form with a fine stop from McDonald who had breached the defence with a strong run.

Swifts were not to be denied and Matthan slid home an angled drive after her good movement found space in the box. With the Dons tiring and Swifts able to field fresh legs, the result was put beyond doubt when McKay stabbed home a Lister corner that had been met well by Martin. Martin was then denied by the keeper after another header from a Lister corner. Lister was then denied herself when she cracked a stunning left foot shot against the underside of the bar with the ball looking like it had crossed the line (according to Danny FTL who was well placed on the sidelines).

With the game drawing to a close the Dons advanced and scored a second with a well struck shot that beat Gall with the help of a slight deflection.

The young Dons team had battled well in the second half and pushed the Swifts all the way. Swifts will be delighted with their second successive win. They are creating chances and scoring quality goals, Martin has added experience to the back four, and with a strong squad and work ethic developing, are looking forward to continuing this form next week when they welcome Dunfermline.
