Swifts continue good run

Swifts entertained Queens Park at Riverside hoping to continue from their win on Thursday. It was to be game that ebbed and flowed with eventful starting and closing quarters, with Swifts sneaking it by the odd goal in seven despite a late onslaught from the visitors.
It was the visitors who landed the first blow in the first minute with an excellent break from a Swifts throw-in. A couple of quick passes and Queens had opened up the Swifts defence and the goal taken well.
This was a now a challenge to the Swifts who, against a strong wind, immediately replied in style with three goals in the space of 10 minutes. Firstly on 5mins Martin rose to head a Robertson corner home, then minutes later a McGinley long-throw was prodded home by Todd.
Before the first 15mins were complete the Swifts added a third when a ball in behind beat the offside trap and McGinley was free to beat the advancing keeper calmly. Todd and then McGinley were then both thwarted by the keeper as the Swifts were turning on the style.
The 3-1 HT lead was something that the Swifts were pleased to have and wanted to start the second half determined to get the important fourth to kill the game off. They duly got this when McGinley powered her way beyond the defence and scored with an excellent strike across the keeper.
Swifts had earned this lead and with Thursday's exploits taking their toll they looked to see the game out without any issues. The visitors however had other ideas. A goal from a scramble following a corner and then another back-post header had them back in the game with 5mins remaining.
They threw everything into the last minutes and were unlucky not to equalise when on two occasions free-kicks on top of the Swifts defence had dropped and with the goal gaping twice the ball was blasted over when it seemed a tap-in would have been sufficient.
Swifts hung on and given their efforts on Thursday will be delighted with another two points against a very dangerous opponent. Coach McCrindle was delighted with his side. "That's two very difficult games in four days for the girls, and to come away with six points I'm really pleased for them. Queens made it a very nervy finish for us but after Thursday's efforts the girls, especially in the last fifteen, just dug deep and we held out for the win. We have another game on Thursday but because of injuries etc we cannot make many changes to give them a rest, so we are asking a lot from them just now and that's why today was a great three points. I'm sure they will be raring to go on Thursday when we host Boroughmuir at Jeanfield".
