McFadyen Double helps Swifts back to Top

Swifts entertained Celtic Academy looking to get back into winning ways after two consecutive defeats. They were to come back in style with an excellent win showing great spirit and control of the game.
The game started in excellent fashion with both teams trying to play football on a difficult surface. Although neither team forced clear cut chances they were both threatening and the game very even.
Swifts broke the deadlock when Thatcher found McGinley who put McFadyen through. The striker was under pressure from both centre backs but kept her composure to stab the ball home.
The goal boosted the Swifts and Grossi then Todd threatened to add to the total, until Todd broke free down the left and her tempting cross was met at the back post by McGinley who smashed home at the back post.
The Swifts were now in control and a succession of long throws from McGinley caused trouble and then created the third when Shaw deflected one home. Moments later McGinley's next one actually came off the bar with chaos being caused.
Swifts would have been delighted to have a 3-0 HT lead and the Celts will have been disappointed in the way the half seemed to drift away from them after a confident start.
Swifts started the second half determined to put the game to bed and looked to have done so when McGinley collected a great headed pass from Nicholson and was brought down, with Shaw scoring the resultant penalty.
To their credit the young Celtic team came back and scored their own penalty after a McDonald handball. McGinley then came close to closing the game off after a great run with the keeper saving her shot with Thatcher looking for a cutback.
The Swifts were not to be denied however when the impressive McFadyen scored from close range after another McGinley throw, and then McClelland almost added a sixth only prevented by the defender's excellent recovery.
The game then ended in an exciting manner when Celtic were awarded another penalty but this time McIlravey made a wonderful save tipping it onto the underside of the bar.
With Thatcher outstanding Swifts will be delighted with the spirit shown by the team after recent defeats, and the way they dominated the game.
Jason McCrindle who was also returning after missing last weeks match passing is UEFA C Licence was understandably delighted "the girls can be pleased with what they did today. It was almost the complete performance in terms of everything we asked them to do. Defensively from the forwards to the goalkeeper everyone worked really hard and we looked difficult to break down. Going forward and on the ball we looked dangerous. The players had a spring in their step this week in training and they carried it onto the pitch today. I'm delighted with the attitude from everyone and also the players injured who watched on - it was good to see everyone together".
