Swifts continue to make up ground

Swifts welcomed a young Boroughmuir side to Perth as they continue to play catch up with fixtures. In a well contested match the more experienced home side secured the points with a comfortable 2-0 victory.
The game was to be won in the first half when the Swifts energy and passing game dominated proceedings. Showing good patience on the ball the Swifts had control of the match and were putting pressure on Boroughmuir. Robertson shot just over and a Grossi half-volley just missed the backpost. McGinley and Mearns then tested the keeper who was dealing with the shots confidently as she was with the flurry of corners.
However just as it looked like the visitors had survived unscathed the home side struck on the half-hour. McLeod was strong in the challenge and fed Grossi who played a pass to Mearns who had timed her run perfectly. With plenty still to do, she kept her nerve and finished with a great low shot beyond the keeper.
This settled the Swifts and they doubled their lead when Mearns drifted cleverly to the left and her perfect cross was met by McGinley who scored with a deft left-footed lobbed volley.
The visitors responded with a few corners that were delivered with menace but McIlravey was strong in Swifts goal.
With a 2 goal lead at half-time it was Swifts turn to face the wind and it was going to be a test of organisation.
The home team responded in brave fashion and limited the visitors to few chances despite the fact they enjoyed the majority of possession. With their main threat now down their right, full-back Leiper was in top form and coped with this threat confidently. It didnt stop Swifts almost adding to their lead and MacLean came close twice, first with a long range shot that just missed, and then a close range effort following a good overlap that was too straight to trouble the keeper.
The visitors worked tirelessly to the end and will be delighted with the efforts of their young side. Swifts will be delighted to continue to pick up points.
Coach McCrindle was delighted with another three points that takes the side into the top six. "I thought we started very well. The first 30mins was excellent, the way we passed the ball and the energy when we didn't have it was great. The 2nd half was always going to take its toll after 3 games in a week with the same starting 11. The reward for them is 9 points and 2 clean sheets.
