Swifts second best against confident Accies

Swifts travelled to New Douglas Park looking to build on a great first week of the league season. However after a brisk start they found themselves second best and rueing a poor first half performance.
In the early exchanges Swifts were looking bright and Todd was making a good impression on the left and looking like she could link well with Weir. However they fell behind when the winger found space in behind Flynn-Scott and her cross was nudged home by Inglis.
The lead was doubled when Swifts naively looked for a stoppage when McDonald went down, with Accies taking advantage and a quick cross knocked home by Gardner.
Accies were now on top and McIlravey continued her excellent form with two excellent saves when faced with 1v1. She was however unable to prevent a third just before half-time when possession was lost and McGuiness took full advantage with a strong strike.

Swifts will have been disappointed with the slack nature of their play in the half and the loss of needless goals.
Coach McCrindle didn't wait too long into the second half to alter the shape and introduce fresh legs in the shape of McIntyre and Fox. To their credit the Swifts were now competing well, making better decisions and looking more fluid in their play. The home side however were still playing well and looking to kill the game off. Swifts continued their improvement and the second half was a much closer affair but the game was put out of Swifts grasp when Gardner crashed home a great strike after Accies had turned possession over.
FT Accies 4 Swifts 0
Swifts earned credit today with their spirited 2nd half performance but had lost the game with a sluggish first half where they were punished by sharp and strong opposition. Head Coach McCrindle was understandably disappointed "I have mixed emotions after that, both disappointment and frustration. Disappointed with the result and frustrated with the performance. The result was due to a combination of bad mistakes on our part and us not getting near them in the first half. Second half we changed the shape and made changes and looked better so I need to take responsibility in maybe not changing it sooner. It's our first loss against a team that was playing Prem football last year so we work on a few wee things that will improve us for next challenge against Hearts.
