Swifts battle for Point in the Wind

Swifts travelled to play Hutchievale for the first time ever. After a scrappy match in difficult conditions both teams earned a point which was probably a fair reflection of the game.

On a pitch that was not conducive to entertaining football both teams were forced to go long in their pursuit of goals. The early exchanges saw the home side exert most of the pressure but Flynn-Scott was proving up to the task of coping with the wide threat and Cochran was giving her defence great cover and confidence.

As the half progressed and with Shaw and Irvine combining well in defence Swifts grew in confidence and started to make more an offensive impression against a very strong wind, with a McIntyre shot being spilled by the keeper and Scobbie hitting the bar with a 25 yard strike.

A HT score of 0-0 will have pleased the Swifts as they had survived a difficult first 20mins and had then settled into the game.

The second half proved to be a more entertaining affair. Swifts started on the front foot and a Weir 25yard shot slipped just past and then McIntyre tried her luck from further out. McIntyre's movement was now causing problems and the Swifts were looking the likelier. However to the home side's credit they came back into the game and created their own chances with Cochran producing two excellent 1v1 saves. The Swifts then replied in positive fashion with Weir slipping McDonald in and she was thwarted by the bravery of the keeper.

The closing minutes proved eventful with McDonald suffering concussion, Cochran again came to the Swifts rescue and then play raging to the other end where MacLean saw her 25yard strike crash off the crossbar.

FT Hutchievale 0 Swifts 0

A hard-fought match with both teams coming close but neither having the required quality in the final third to gain the win. Head Coach Jason McCrindle was pleased with is team "on the balance of play I think a draw was a fair result, both teams had chances and neither team deserved to lose the game. In saying that, Emma MacLean hits the bar in the 91st minute from 30yds - that would have been a worthy winner. I'm pleased with the group today, it was a team effort and I've said in the past we are too nice sometimes. Not today, we battled for everything and showed that we are prepared to do what it takes. We may not have won but more importantly we didn't lose and we kept a clean sheet. 4 points from 4 games that includes playing the two favourites so we look forward to next week where again we have another tough game against a Buchan team that is in good form.
