Swifts welcomed Buchan to McDiarmid and after two very close matches last season the match eagerly anticipated. The match was indeed entertaining and keenly fought and it was the home strike force of McGinley and McIntyre who were to prove too hot to handle for the visitors. The game started at a furious pace with both teams trying to get the upper hand and it was Swifts who got it when a Cochran kick was headed on my McGinley and McIntyre stole in behind the defence and prodded past the advancing keeper. Buchan responded positively and within 5 minutes were level when Scobbie blocked a run and the resultant penalty was expertly dispatched into the top corner. Buchan were encouraged by this and for the next 15minutes tested the home side but the back 5 held firm and allowed the side to slowly grab a foothold in the game. As the half progressed Swifts were looking more likely and five minutes from HT McGinley swooped at the edge of the box and struck a great left foot strike across the keeper. The Swifts were now on top and McGinley went on a run that drew defenders and she unselfishly squared to McIntyre who cracked home her second of the game. The game had now turned and the visitors were now under threat. In the final minute McGinley broke clear again and was fouled as she was about to pull the trigger. The defender was red carded and Shaw despatched the penalty. It ended an entertaining half which had seen both sides dominate for spells but a strong finish by Swifts had completely turned the game. HT Swifts 4 Buchan 1 Swifts will have been delighted with a show of great determination that turned a slightly hesitant start into a dominant performance. The visitors will have been deflated to have ended the half 3 goals adrift and one player down. It was now up to Swifts to manage the second half and secure the points by not letting the dangerous visitors back into the game. The second half started in a quite fashion with both teams subdued. However as in the first, the half burst into life with the Swifts scoring three goals in a matter of five minutes with all of the goals coming from McGinley. The first saw a strong run get her clear and she scored with a great strike into the roof of the net. Then McIntyre was alert and played her in and she found another clinical finish. The final strike was so entertaining. Todd stole in at the back and struck a great shot that came off the underside of the bar, it came out to McGinley whose header also hit the bar, and with a box of players scrambling McGinley was first to react and get her third of the half and cap an outstanding performance from the striker. The game was now over as a contest but to the visitors credit they never gave up and scored a consolation as well as hitting the bar late on. Jason McCrindle was understandable delighted "I have nothing but praise for everyone today. It is a fantastic result against a strong Buchan side who have experience of playing SWPL1 football. This is our first season at this level and that's why I am so happy with the group. We have good players here and I think they are starting to believe in their ability. We looked dangerous going forward and our strikers worked well together scoring six between them. That's 13 goals scored in 3 home games which is very pleasing.
