McDonald Double helps Swifts Continue Good Form

Swifts made the journey to Inverness looking to build on a good win last week. In a game where like last week the opposition enjoyed a brighter start the Swifts again displayed their staying-power and quality by emerging as 3-0 victors.

Inverness were quick off the blocks and were enjoying most of the play, and were unfortunate not to take the lead when a great run down the wing saw the resultant cut back blasted over the bar with the goal gaping.

It took the Swifts a bit of time to settle and shortly after McGinley saw a good shot well saved and then the home keeper had to be alert on a few occasions coming off her line smartly. Swifts were now looking confident with Grossi and Todd both looking to get on the ball in the wide areas and Shaw and Flynn-Scott dealing with the central threat. McDonald then played in McGinley with a great diagonal pass only for the home keeper again to cut out the danger.

Just before half-time Swifts took the lead when McDonald beat the offside trap to meet a McGinley pass and finished with a great shot into the far corner past the advancing keeper.

Swifts would have been pleased with the goal just before the break which will have deflated the hosts who had contributed a lot to the match.

The second half saw Swifts showing greater purpose and control with Scobbie and Maclean dictating play allowing Thatcher and McDonald to support the strikers with menace. The all-important second goal arrived soon after when a Shaw header was helped on by McIntyre and McGinley was in behind ready to side-foot a calm finish home.

The home side then had a great chance to cut the deficit but Cochran pulled off an outstanding save to preserve her clean sheet.

Swifts were now in control and McGinley, McIntyre and Scobbie all went close to adding goals. The third however was worth the wait. Todd found Fox who showed great pace and awareness in beating her opponent and sending in a cross to McIntyre who slipped the ball back to the edge of the box for an on-rushing McDonald who despatched a great strike into the top corner.

FT Inverness 0 Jeanfield Swifts 3

A great result for the Swifts and positive to see two players who had come to the game straight after nightshift work score the goals. It was an excellent team performance again from the Swifts who continue their fine form and continue to improve.

Jason McCrindle commented "It's an absolute pleasure to be involved with this group of payers. I'm so happy for them to come up to Inverness and go away with 3 goals and a clean sheet. The best compliment I can give them is that I didn't want the game to end. We were a little slow to start but that's understandable coming away up here, but after a wee positional change we looked better. It's ironic that our goal scorers came straight off a nightshift, travelled up and scored the goals. That just sums up this great group we have here.
