Swifts Bounce Back in Style

Swifts travelled to Glasgow to meet up with Queens Park in the first game of the second round of fixtures. With Queens looking to continue their recent good form Swifts were expecting a tough game in which to show they had recovered from last week's defeat to Glasgow. The Ladies however showed their resilience and quality by storming to an emphatic victory.

The Swifts cause was given an immediate boost when the returning Martin rose to head home a Scobbie corner in the first minute. This seemed to knock the hosts back and the played surged towards their goal with Bullock pulling off some impressive saves especially from the unfortunate McIntyre. Swifts were assured in possession with Maclean particularly impressive in keeping possession, Grossi overlapping with dangerous intent, and McDonald showing a real desire to get beyond the strikers.

McDonald doubled the lead when she followed up a save from a McGinley shot and then McGinley received a Thatcher pass and swept home from the edge. McDonald then got her second when she knocked home a McGinley corner after a clever back-post run. The fifth came from another set piece this time from a Scobbie corner, headed home by Thatcher who had just had a goal chalked off. Todd was now also adding width and Swifts were stretching the visitors to great effect.

Swifts will have been delighted with the first 45. Full of confident play, excellent build up all over the pitch and a desire to get good delivery into the box and to get into scoring positions. McCrindle was looking for a repeat in the second half.

He wasn't to be disappointed with two quick goals, the first from McIntyre after the keeper had parried a McGinley shot, and then McGinley intercepted a passback to round the keeper. McGinley then got her hattrick when she scored direct from a corner and then added a fourth with a vicious angled drive.

The Swifts insistence on maintaining pressure and keeping the ball moving was impressive and it wasn't long before double figures was reached in style when MacLean placed an unstoppable drive into the top corner from 25 yards. The best goal of the game to most of those watching.

McIntyre then got her second with a nice turn and excellent curling shot and McDonald got her hattrick when her own 25 yard drive smacked off the post and into the goal despite the valiant effort from the home keeper.

McDonald wasn't finished as she drove forward in the closing minutes and slipped Fox in and she cracked a great angled drive into the back post to complete the scoring.

FT Queens Park 0 Jeanfield Swifts 13

A great result for the Ladies and this was the highest competitive victory in their history.

Head Coach Jason McCrindle commented "after the disappointment of losing last week which I'm responsible for I think this week all the praise should go to the players. They were excellent, every one of them. It was complete team performance, we have a really good group of players here and I'm lucky to be working with them.
