Late Goal Defeats Swifts

In an evenly contested East Derby Forfar emerged winners with a late Kilcoyne goal settling the tie.

In a first half dominated by a strong wind the quality of play had suffered as both teams struggled to adapt. With the wind Forfar were on the front foot but it was Swifts Leah Fleming who came closest to opening the scoring when she latched onto a great Todd pass only to see her shot smack off the near post.

Parsley was then presented with the visitors best opportunity but saw her shot fly across goal and just miss the back post.
Shillitto was then denied by an excellent Cochran block as the first half ended goalless.

Farmington took the lead five minutes after the break when a Shillitto cross was flicked up by Parsley and volleyed home. The goal
boosted the visitors and they should have doubled their lead when Noble missed when free at the back post.

Swifts however showed great desire and came back strongly into the match. Henderson's composure at the back was allowing them to pass the ball better and with Cowie introduced and causing problems up front there was better play by the home side who were now dominating.

They got a deserved equaliser on 65mins when a McGinley corner eluded everyone and dropped into the net.

Fleming was now a real danger on the left and Swifts were looking for the winner and thought they had found it when McGinley burst through to meet a Fleming pass and seemed to be tripped by Collier. Off balance from that tackle she rounded McNicoll but the home fans' claims for a penalty were turned away by the referee. To add insult to injury McGinley was then forced off after sustaining a head injury in the process.

As the game entered its final minutes Farmington grabbed the points when Kilcoyne cracked a stunning strike from fully 25 yards.

General Manager Steve Grossi was disappointed with the result. "I sympathise with the girls on the result. In the first half it was a difficult with the conditions and Forfar's direct style and then it was a real setback to lose the first goal. However I thought the girls responded with real purpose and once we had equalised I really felt we were going to go on and win the match. We are feeling pretty sore about the penalty incident. The winner was a crushing blow but all credit to Cheryl. She's a player I know well and admire and that sort of strike is something that she has always been capable of".
